    Dear friends,

I am a MTB rider from Croatia. Hope you are interested in story about Novotni (org. Novotny):

Vjekoslav Novotni was born in Petrinja, Croatia. His father was a military musician and he came from CZ at the beginning of 19 century during AU monarhy. I discovered the story in 2008 and dedicated the ride Kotor – Orjen to Novotni:

The ride Kotor – Orjen is almost the copy of the original Novotni's ride along Orjen mountain.

Sorry for my English, I just want to tell you to forget Garry Fischer & Co :), Novotni was the first master of MTB and we share MTB history. Please update your books ;).

    Regards!

    Miroslav

      ..Please update your books ;).

I think that Vjekoslav Novotni from Croatia is not the father of MTB, he only demonstrated mtb ride on the Croatia paths.

But my opinion is that design engineers and riders bicycles long times before him in United Kingdom (Coventry, Essex, London and Irish Belfast) with the development air-filled rubber tires.

First was John Kemp Starley and his 26 " bicycle „Rover Safety Bicycles“ in 1884/85, which was first fitted with strong rubber air filled tires (developed by John Boyd Dunlop, but originally by Scottish Robert William Thomson, even from 1846).

Another engineer was also the Englishman George Singer with its luxury bicycle „Apollo“ in 1888, viz. photo.

Those were the first bicycles, which had comfortable ride in terrain with these tires. ;)
